To: Subversion Mailing list
Recently we've implemented file archiving on Windows servers using
Symantec Enterprise Vault. This works by replacing files that haven't
been accessed for a certain amount of time with placeholder files.
These work like normal files in so far as standard operations go
(open/read/write/close). However, we have a problem using TortoiseSVN.
For example, if:
1) There is a project that has been checked into Subversion.
2) Symantec Enterprise Vault archives the files and folders,
including .svn folders and their contents.
3) Any further attempts to these edit files and check them into
Subversion results in the error message:
Commit failed ... Entry ... has unexpectedly
changed special status.
A number of questions have been raised in the past concerning this error
message and symlinks in Linux. Presumably the principle is the same here
with Enterprise Vault placeholder files and Windows. I could only find
one occurrence of Enterprise Vault in the TortoiseSVN mailing lists:
http://svn.haxx.se/tsvn/archive-2010-01/0063.shtml I don't believe the
question asked there is relevant to our question.
Thanks for your help
Keith
