That's what I wanted to know (but, sadly, not what I wanted to hear).
HWB also maintains another (even stupider) file .hwb. This one has window positions, editor options, last-string-searched etc, all in the same file as the source-files-in-the-build list !
It is of the format of a .ini file, with sections like this:
I was hoping to write a custom differ that would scan only the sections which made the file "really different" but I see now that this won't work.
