Access control mechanism by group/user

Hello,
We are at present trying to evaluate subversion as possible versioning system to replace the existing one. I have already downloaded the subversion and tsvn also and trying to play around the UI and data too. Till now I have used only web based UI to configure the access control. I am still trying to integrate with LDAP, have some issues too. One of our requirement is to know whether subversion provides group/user level access control? Eg a group/user can be owner of a folder and only that group/user can checkout that folder whereas others can do the get latest. Any document that gives brief description about the access control mechanism in SVN. Thanks a lot.

regards,
RB
