Problem with TortoiseSVN 1.6.7 and newer with SSL handshake

Hello,

I am an admin supporting (developer) users using TortoiseSVN with a
repository running on an Apache Server via SSL.

Everything works fine with TortoiseSVN up to (and including) version 1.6.6
but not with any newer version (1.6.7 up to the current 1.6.10).

When we try to access the repository with TortoiseSVN 1.6.7 or newer,
we get this error:

Command : Checkout from https://svn.mks-inst.de/svn/test,
revision HEAD, Fully recursive, Externals included
Error : OPTIONS of 'https://svn.mks-inst.de/svn/test': SSL
handshake failed: SSL error:
Error : certificate verify failed (https://svn.mks-inst.de)
Finished! :

We use a certificate created by our own internal CA. It is perfectly OK
as far as I can tell and access via Firefox and TortoiseSVN until 1.6.6
works fine.

I have searched all setting, docs and the Internet quite a lot but cannot
find any hint what I should do.

It looks like it (starting with 1.6.7) may need the CA certificate on the
client which may make sense. But where should I store it? I can't find
any documentation on this topic.

Please let me know if you have any hint for me how to solve this.
I am struggling with this problem already since 1.6.7 came out and
get tired having to tell the developers to stick with 1.6.6 forever ...
