Check for modifications and diff remote repository

Recently, we use tortoise diff very often and found a strange result
when we use check for modifications before update to prevent
conflict.
When we found there is a file in the repository (Head revision) is
different of our working copy. Click on the check for modification
dialog to see what’s different and found it is always display the
revision number which is not the Head revision.
Q1: May I change setting to compare head revision and my working copy
when I use “Check for modifications” dialog?
Q2:I found the default revision which compare to my working copy is
the root head revision not from my file revision…in this way, Could I
say that use my file head revision to compare to my working copy?
Thanks for your kindly help.
