Can you add a file to an ignore list?

I have an issue where I want a generic database config file in the database.
When I check out the repository I then want to be able to add that config
file to an ignore list so that the settings I enter for my local development
environment don't overwrite the version in the repository. The only option I
see though is Delete and Ignore. Is there an option somewhere else that does
what I'm asking. Thanks.
