I seem to have sent this to the wrong address - following the suggestion below, I'm forwarding it to you. Hope you find it useful.

Bob,
Hmmm, that's ugly, isn't it? Unfortunately, I can't help much here. Your message would be more productive if sent to users_at_tortoisesvn.tigris.org<mailto:users_at_tortoisesvn.tigris.org>.
TortoiseSVN, like all Tigris projects, maintains its own discussions, help, knowledge, and bug resources. This list, feedback_at_tigris, is only involved in whole-site matters like upgrades and downtime.

I recently downloaded and upgraded several (6?) Windows XP (32-bit) and Windows 7 (64-bit) PCs that had the 1.6.7 TSVN client. All of the installs were "on top of" the existing client (I was prompted to download the 1.6.8 client while using TSVN), and I rebooted the PCs immediately after the installation.
For all of these machines, following the installation, none of the expected TSVN icons were visible in Windows Explorer. I tried to fix it by looking for "what's wrong" on the Web, but the situations didn't seem to apply.
I seem to have fixed the problem by first uninstalling (using Control Panel) the Tortoise client, rebooting, and then reinstalling the 1.6.8 client. Upon a second reboot, the icons are now present.
As this happened to me on several different PCs, with (the latest patched versions of) two different Windows operating systems, this may be a real "bug/feature" of the 1.6.8 client. I recommend possibly updating the FAQ on the TSVN site, as that was where I first looked to diagnose my "missing icons" problem, to say that users should also try an uninstall/reboot/reinstall/reboot cycle.
