You have to use update-to-revision to get that option BTW.

If you have previously used 1.6.0 or 1.6.1 you may have hit a bug
which gives a checkout that is not marked for full update.

Normally you want to select depth=fully recursive (the default) on
your initial checkout and then update should work just fine.
