What's the best version of Tortoise to use with a SVN server version of 1.3.1?

I'm working in a situation where our SVN server is version 1.3.1. There's no possibility of upgrading it. I'm using the latest SVN client software in Eclipse. I'm seeing difficult problems with "tree conflicts" when I try to do a merge. I'm thinking this variance in versions might be causing me problems. I think the main issues in the version difference will affect me in merges, not in everyday usage, so I'm investigating whether installing an older standalone SVN client will help me get through these merge problems.

Assuming this strategy makes any sense at all, can you suggest the latest version of TortoiseSVN that is best compatible with SVN server version 1.3.1?
