Even with the corrected changelog, nothing seems obviously connected to
icon overlay problems... has there been any work in that area?

I ask because I am still on 1.6.4. I gave a detailed bug report here on
August 24, right after 1.6.5 was released, explaining that 1.6.5 broke
overlay support for me on Win 7 x64. While a number of others also
experienced problems similar to mine, there was never an "official"
response or comment.

Has anything been fixed WRT icon overlay handling for 1.6.6?
