Recently added file does not appear in update

Good day,

I added and commited a new file to an existing directory (folder) in
SVN. My co-worker did an SVN update on the directory on his machine,
however the new file did not appear. He tried to do a "clean-up" on
the directory, but that didn't do anything either. If he does a "show
log" he can see my commit with the name of the new file.

How is this possible? How should he go about getting this file? Is
there something I should do to avoid this sort of thing happening in
the future?

We're using Tortoise SVN 1.6.5 and Visual SVN Server 1.7.1.

Many thanks,

Patrick Collins
