Log entry missing 'name' attribute

I did a clean check out onto root of a network share. That works fine. Then I change a file on root of the share. Then click "commit". Then I get "Log entry missing 'name' attribute (entry 'rm' for directory 'W:')

I've spent 2 hours on this problem and can't figure it out.
