convert file:// to ssh+svn

I currently have a repository I can access directly from tortoisesvn using file:// or via ssh+svn. The checkout I did uses file:// but when I travel there is no way to access the repository, so should I just update the repository and than recheckout via ssh+svn or is there a way to convert to ssh+svn? Or have I completely misunderstood the the process?
