did you really name that folder _svn?
Please try renaming that - '_svn' is used also as the name for the svn
admin directory inside every working copy folder (at least if the VS.NET
option is set). Maybe that's what's confusing svn?

But cleanup works?

Yes, try that. Then use the Check-for-modifications dialog to check
whether the folder is still marked as 'added'.
