Merging marks unrelated files as modified

Hi!

I have following scenario:
Three branches of a tree, the second was created from the first and the third
from the second. Now, I made a bugfix in the second branch. I then merge this
revision into branches one and three.

What confuses me now is that the merge in the third branch marked pretty much
every single file in the working copy as modified, even though it is just a
single one that changed. In branch one, and that confuses me even more, this
is _not_ done, it only marks the file plus the directory where the file is in
as modified.

I'm using TSVN 1.5.8 on a 32-bit system.

Can anyone help me understand what is happening there?
