I came here to report this same issue and saw that it already had a topic in the mailing list.

I'm having precisely this same problem after the update. Overlay icons sometimes display, but not always; I tried all of the same solutions as the original poster to no avail.

It is a new behavior with the update.

I'm using Windows XP SP3.
