I updated to the latest and found my icons were gone and my PC more or
less died. Browsing the C drive took forever, but nothing showed in
the task manager.

So I followed the above advice. After the uninstall and reboot XP
hung, so I <ctrl>+<alt>+<del> to get to the task manager. At this
point XP told me that TSVNCacheWindow was not responding.

So I killed this and did a reboot. The C drive was working again. I
did a reinstall and my icons are back and I can still browse the C
drive.
