I've been irritated by this behavior a number of times too. In my
case, I'll be going though the process of diffing a bunch of files
prior to committing; I'll push Esc to close the TortoiseMerge window
for diffing a file - once in a while, I'll accidentally hit the button
twice (sometimes because TortoiseMerge takes a few seconds to close
and I'm not sure I actually pushed Esc yet). The second Esc closes
the Commit dialog and then I have to start again with figuring out
what I want to commit in this batch,.
