runtime error in TortoiseProc while merging

While doing a merge with TSVN 1.5.8 I get:

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

Runtime Error!

Program: C:\Program Files\TortoiseSVN\bin\TotroiseProc.exe

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual
way.

Please contact the application's support team for more information.

This is totally repeatable, across multiple working copies freshly
checked out, and I get no such errors when I do the same thing in the
command line like so:

svn merge https://[server]/[path]/tags/[tag path] . --non-interactive

(I have "Merge non-interactive" selected but I haven't seen this make a
difference.

Anyway, I click OK and get an official crash window, with the
Microsoft-standard options to send an error report to Microsoft, not to
send, or to debug. Debugging (selecting Visual Studio 2005) just ends
up closing out TortoiseProc right away (so I can't get a dump, call
stack, or anything that way).

I can get the error signature from the MS error window:

AppName: tortoiseproc.exe AppVer: 1.5.8.15348 ModName:
tortoiseproc.exe

ModVer: 1.5.8.15348 Offset: 002254c2

I don't know if this helps at all but if there's a way to get more
information, I'm happy to try.
