Check for update before merge?

Once in a while someone forgets to check to see if a working folder is
fully updated before using it in a merge. This eventually gets noticed
during the merge process, which (correctly) fails and notifies you
that you need to update first.

But, to save some time, would it be possible for Tortoise to check for
unapplied updates -before- the merge?
