Delete files on systems and update. Does it work?

Hi,

The habit might be a bad one, but a when the checkout is corrupted and
clean-up doesn't work I do thsi quick fix: Delete the folder on the
file system, then hit update. Tortoise sees that the files are missing
and adds them.

In the latest version however this doesn't seem to work. Update adds
no files, and there is no indication of missing files if diff. Is this
a bug, or is deliberate choice of functionalit?. Anyone else
experiencing this? Any hints?

Running svn worked: svn update <folder name>
