svn+ssh tortoisesvn slow vs subclipse

Hi,

I have a 1.4.5 repo accessed via svn+ssh://. using TortoiseSVN 1.5.6

TortoiseSVN is my preferred client but I have noticed that for my
setup subclipse gives a much faster user experience. I did some
investigating and found that subclipse seems to hold a persistent ssh
session through which it performs all its operations, but that
TortoiseSVN frequently opens new ssh connections. When browsing a repo
for example, this makes Tortoise feel a lot slower than subclipse,
because it starts a new ssh connection every time you open a new
directory.

The simple solution for me would be to drop the ssh requirement and
just use svn:// since it is a private lan anyway, but I was just
wondering if anyone knew of a better solution.

thanks,
Craig
