I never have this problem using WinMerge as diff viewer - but even when
I now used TortoiseMerge by holding down shift when selecting "Show
changes" TortoiseMerge didn't lose focus.

I did notice that the log window did some funky redrawing that kind of
created a white halo around the TortoiseMerge window (i.e. some area of
the log window behind the TortoiseMerge window got filled with white due
to a pending redraw) which disappeared a few seconds later, but I didn't
lose focus...

I've noticed though that the log window produces an hourglass mouse
cursor for some seconds when I move my mouse cursor over it after the
diff is displayed - why would it do anything that takes several seconds
after producing the diff? I wouldn't expect "Show changes" to change
anything in the log window...
