405 Method not allowed on update, but not in Linux

I have the latest version of TortoiseSVN but when I try to update a project I
get:
Server sent unexpected return value (405 Method Not Allowed) in response to
PROPFIND request for '/svn/thing/trunk'
However, if I run 'svn update' from the Linux command-line on the same server,
it works fine, suggesting that this is not a server issue.
