Yes, please! Confirm before checking out into a non-empty directory. Don't
bother the user if the directory exists but is empty. Create the directory
without confirmation if it does not exist.
The current situation is bad UI. I've had users (who have gotten so used to
dismissing the dialog out of hand) check out *into* their desktop and then
commit the entire contents of their desktop on next commit, having added
everything that wasn't tracked since you can do that so conveniently from
the commit window.
