Overlay icons missing and explorer window hangs/crashes on Windows Vista

The last few days I've been having a terrible time trying to debug
issues where my tortoiseSVN was not working. I had a bunch of files
checked out and my overlay icons stopped working, and when ever I
would browse folders using my Windows Explorer on Vista the Window
would take a really long time to load and many times crash.

I have so many various pluggins that integrate with the right click
context menu and the shell, so I was having a very hard time debugging
the problem.

The good news is this morning, I ran some windows updates and
magically my problem seems to be solved!!!

Here are the updates that were installed, I hope they can save someone
else time in the future:
