The .svn dirs are hidden and write-protected. Nonetheless, some
search'n'replace tools actually don't care: If you run them on your
sourcecode within the WC, they will happily descend into Subversion's private
dirs and wreak havoc there. Those are the 'broken tools' that I was referring
to.

I don't know how that could cause problems, but you could try to temporarily
move it someplace else. Otherwise I'm out of ideas. :(
