(Newbie question) Auto-export on commit?

Hi all;

I recently started using Subversion to help with my website and a few other
coding projects I have in the works. I don't have any problems checking
out/committing files, but with regards to the website, committing files
doesn't update the files in the original source directory I imported from.
It's my understanding that Subversion keeps files in a separate location and
in a different format, but is there a way to somehow sync up the source
directory and the repository? I'd like to be able to commit files and be
able to view the changes immediately. It seems like it should be similar to
a 'build on commit'
(http://www.nabble.com/how-to-automate-build-to2908093.html#a2908093), but I
couldn't figure out how to configure CruiseControl to just export the files
to the proper directory.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
