OK. I found out the problem!
The documentation on the setup page of the merge
is telling that you can leave the revision entry empty
to take the whole branch!

Someone forgot to say: "really all!"
My expectation was that the tool is using the
"stop on copy"!

Now I'm choosing all revisions from the log window
with the defualt flag "stop on copy" and the merge
is working fine!
