Icon overlays gradually decay into... different icons

Hi,
I've got a user that's recently upgraded to TortoiseSVN 1.5.3 noticing a bizarre problem with icon overlays. After a reboot, everything looks fine. Gradually (within half an hour or so), the overlays start 'decaying' (for lack of a better word) into icons that aren't recognisable. I've attached a screenshot the user has provided me.
Windows 2000, SP4, build 5.00.2195. Oddly enough, no-one else in the team gets this problem.
Any ideas?
