Checking what commit revision a branch was taken from?

Hi,

Suppose I am not at the head revision of trunk in a project, and I branch my
working copy. From the branch, how can I tell which commit revision in the
trunk I branched from? Will the revision graph accurately tell me this? Or
must I use some other method?

Also, I can't imagine how complex merging between branches gets when your
branch wasn't branched at the same revision. In other words, various parts
of your working copy were updated to different revisions.
