I see but it makes those patches non-portable from Windows to Unix. On
Solaris, the patch command simply rejects it. On Linux, it works but
displays "(Stripping trailing CRs from patch.)".

When you say the actual file content uses the EOLs of the file itself,
but since I'm on Windows, all my files have the windows platform EOLs
and it should be using that, no?
