Diff'ing between arbitrary folders in the repo browser broken with 1.5

Before the repo browser was turned into the split window (tree on
left, files on right) you could ctrl-click any arbitrary folders and
diff them. With the split window it seems you cannot do this? That
treeview behaviour matches the Explorer folders view where you can't
select multiple folders.

This arbitrary folder diffing was a huge feature for me. eg: diff'ing
the trunk with an old tag, diffing a branch with a tag, etc. The loss
of this feature has me cursing the 1.5 upgrade and wanting to revert
to an earlier TortoiseSVN.

Given that I don't see a bug report or other reference to this problem
I can only assume there is another way to do this? What is it?
Diffing folders in separate branches must be a very common operation.
eg: "Why was that branch special again?" "Version X didn't do that...
what have I done to change that behaviour?", etc.
