Version control by file type

You can config Visual SourceSafe to only manage files with particular
file extensions. Is there any way to do this in TortoiseSVN? I am
using it to version documentation files in XML. But FrameMaker also
produces various working files while a file is open and, when a crash
occurs, recovery and working files that have not been cleaned up on
exit. There are also backup files (no, I can't stop it from doing this).

I would just like to tell TortoiseSVN which files to ignore.

Regards,
Hedley
