can't update version controlled folder sometimes

Hi,

When I update folder under version control,
sometimes update is interrupted with the message,
"XXX is not under version control".
But I'm sure the file was under version control before.
I don't know why this happen and how to handle properly.
The only way I'm doing is to remove whole folder,
then check it out again. But I don't like this.
I'm using TortoiseSVN 1.4.4.
Can anybody tell me the reason and better solution?
