As I understand the arguments for Git put forward by Linus Torvalds: the point of the tool is that it is quick and easy to use. To his credit I think he's made it clear that he means it is quicker and easier for HIM to use (after all he wrote it for himself).
Maybe you need to go to the Git project or your own project that has moved to Git and explain that it's not so quick and easy to use if you are not Linus Torvalds and get them to provide a decent business case for making it more difficult to contribute?
I've personally seen too many projects (commercial and open source) switch from one tool to another and openly admit that there is no reason, no cost or user or business benefit - and they usually see after some time that there was significant downside.
