TSVNCache causes nonversioned deletes to be slow

I've been running into an issue where deleting files outside any of my
versioned directories is really slow. When I Ctrl-Alt-Del, I see TSVNCache
eating up the CPU. I googled around and found a similar thread:

http://svn.haxx.se/tsvnusers/archive-2006-01/0337.shtml

The resolution tips IMO aren't a real solution (am I really supposed to come
up with a pattern for all my non-versioned files). Has there been any other
effort towards fixing this defect?
