But working copies are *not* cross platform, OK it kind-of works (I've
broken the rules with Cygwin on occasions) but it's really not supported
and there are things that can go wrong, capitlization, line-endings,
executability etc.

Perhaps you should suggest to the Subversion mailing list that the
behavior be changed (for the Windows client only??)
