All the .svn directories

I'm pretty new to Tortoise. My problem is that in my projects all the .svn
directories are causing havoc with searches (e.g., for files containing
certain text) and with archiving/bundling the project (e.g., to e-mail a
zipped copy of the project to someone with no subversion stuff included). Is
there a way to move these outside the project root directory, or do away with
them altogether, at least temporarily, without having to copy the entire
project and manually delete all the .svn directories?
