If I may venture a guess, perhaps Out-of-Office work?
Occasionally, one of us, here, will visit a manufacturing facility to
more directly investigate an issue, taking along a laptop, and making
actual code changes to test right there.
Since we share a project repository within the team, we have no
chaoice but to just wait until returning to the office (or factory
office) to do updates and commits. But for a solo engineer, a portable
repository makes a lot of sense. For me that would almost certainly be
a laptop, but if I could rely on having a laptop (or other PC) waiting
for me when I got there, then a pocket drive or USB stick would be
very handy.
