But that empty folder is versioned? If it's not, then the commit won't
work. And you'd have to tell me how you've set up your working copy
exactly, including where you've set the externals property.

If it is versioned, then the commit should succeed. Unless of course the
'engine' points to a different repository than your working copy is on.
