Doesn't work. It's the very same with the overlays, the status cache
and network drives.
We tell people that showing overlays on network shares is slow, we
tell them to configure the cache to reduce its memory use, we tell
them to switch to 'dll' or 'none' overlay if their machine is slow.
It. doesn't. work.

Just search this list and the web for blog entries complaining about
how slow the overlays and the cache is. And then read about why:
network shares, cache not configured with include/exclude paths,
working in virtual machines with 128MB RAM, ...

They simply don't care!
The feature exists, and they activate it and expect it to work. It
doesn't matter if the feature is only for specific situations. The
feature's there, basta!
