I'm currently building the nightly builds for the 1.4.x branch. Should
be ready in about two hours. Can you please download that build and see
if your issues are solved or at least improved? It should now be at
least not worse than the 1.4.3 release (apart from the thread leak I
also fixed a crawl-loop when a versioned item got removed).
