tortoise spawning too many remote svnserve processes...

Hello,

I am running tortoisesvn on my Windows system with
putty as the ssh transport ... I simply leave the 'ssh
client' field blank on the network settings dialog,
and it "just works" - I think there is a file type
association with putty...

Anyway, when I fire it up, two things happen:

- I am asked for my ssh password multiple times

- on the (unix) server side, 40 or 50 or 60 'svnserve'
processes are spawned

I am not supposed to spawn so many processes on the
remote end (it is a VPS) - so how can I tell tortoise
to not spawn more than X remote processes ? Or at the
very least, how can I set it up so that it does not
spawn so many ?

Perhaps if I cut it down to one, I will only need to
type in my password once ?
