Auto Create Directory on Checkout

Greetings

I have been running the nightly build for a month or so, in that build
when I check out a folder / project it creates a directory to put the
working copy in. I switched to the stable release once 1.4.4 came out,
I noticed this version doesnt have this functionality, is there a way to
turn it on? Will this eventually be put into the main release?
