I use SVN for work, but what about for Home?

I'm a web developer (ColdFusion) and use SVN at work. I wonder about
using it at home for my side web projects.

I have a shared web hosting account at CrystalTech.com, but I'm sure
they don't offer any kind of Subversion stuff. And I can't install
anything on their servers.

So that means it has to be on my local machine, I guess.

Does SVN work well on local machines?

Is it hard to set up?
