RE: Merge Dialog: From/To URLs reversed

I am sorry, please discard my previous email.

My understanding was quite different from what the tool is intended for.

Now I understand: all the action would be against the object of the very
working copy, which is the only target. The merge dialog literally just
specifies the range of the merge "sources" from which revision to which.
I should be very careful about their meanings as that is not the same as
my prior experience with other version control system.

Bill

Subject: Merge Dialog: From/To URLs reversed

Hello,

While I was using "TortoiseSVN 1.4.3, Build 8645 - 32 Bit" as SVN
client, it's noticed that the From URL and To URL in Merge dialog were
opposite to what I anticipated. If this is not incorrect, at least it is
misleading.

Here is the scenario:

I wanted to merge from http://abc/branches/foo.txt to
http://abc/trunk/foo.txt.

I launched the merge dialog from merge target "trunk" folder (this does
matter as there is another issue if launched from "branches" folder -
the merge source).

Then I have to put http://abc/trunk/foo.txt in the From: URL and
http://abc/branches/foo.txt in the To: URL, which seems silly.

The another issue was, if you brought up merge dialog from the source
folder, "branches" in above case, whatever you put in From/To URLs,
nothing would be done. No merge was made to the destination file
http://abc/trunk/foo.txt at all. This probably would be an enhancement,
rather than a bug...

TortoiseSVN is really a fabulous tool overall...

Thanks,

Bill
