Re: Very slow explorer response

Off hand, I can't give concrete references. However, I can describe
what I did, and it may help some of you.

I realized that the IT department had just renamed a common server
when I noticed the slow down on some machines. So, I searched for the
old name. It turns out that some of Explorer context menus where
trying to load (or reference) files on that (now non-existent) server.
I deleted those references and all was golden.

So, if it happens again to me, I'll probably check the context menu.
I'll have to dig around to find it again (I never seem to remember
where things go). Also, since, MS likes to obfuscate everything with
bizarre looking ID numbers, you may have to do some cross-referencing
until you find the problem. That is, the context menu may key off an
ID number that can be found in another standard place that I'd have to
search for.

If there truly is an interest in this, I can dig around and provide
some more detail. However, I think this somewhat off-topic for this
group.

You might also just run a registry cleaner (like CCleaner) and it may
fix the problem.
