In my experience, what takes most of the time is fetching the log
messages (if the progress dialog can be believed), and wouldn't you have
to do that only once, rather than for every blame?

Anyway, the speed issue is why I gave up my original idea of "back" and
"forward" buttons - having to go through multiple intermediate blames to
reach the one you want would be too slow. But jumping directly to it
would work, I think.

However, according to what you say below it seems that this would be
hard to implement, so don't bother - I'd be happy to have the other two
things I suggested.
