explorer hanging & crashing with 1.4.3.8645

since i installed TortoiseSVN-1.4.3.8645 (i had TortoiseSVN-1.3.3.6219) my system is behaving strange:
- explorer is taking seconds to open a directory
- explorer is crashing
- icons on the desktop take seconds to be displayed

i have svn, version 1.3.0 (r17949) and SVNService running on localhost under XP Professional SP2
my repos is FSFS around 150 MB and is on a network drive
i have trend micro virus scanner and all updates on windows

what are you recommendations?
(should i update the repository, will my subversive/subclipse still work?)
how can i help to get more information to find the error?
